Change surrounds us but the world moved on as it did before and THAT will never change

I have recently started reading “The Stranger” by Albert Camus and I came across this line which shook me. “It occurred to me that anyway one more Sunday was over, that Maman was burried now, that I was going back to work, and that, really, *nothing had changed*.” Nothing had changed. This sentence made me pause my reading. It really got to me and pushed me to think. To digest what I had just read. Then I realised. It is true. Change surrounds us but the world moves on as it did before and THAT will never change.

Change is risky, it can’t be trusted, you might not like it but most importantly, it is inevitable. As social species who love comfort, we often attach materialistic things and people to our emotions. That is natural. That is human. But at the end of the day, nothing and no one is forever. That is the universal truth. Maybe detachment to a certain extent will be good for our soul and peace of mind. I’m not implying that don’t love or don’t care. Not at all. Just don’t be too hurt when people, situations, and things you love or find comfort in, are snatched from you. It had to happen one day or the other. If you yet continue to despise change, then find comfort in the fact that nothing really changes, since the title of this essay is true.
